One of the largest transactions of 2018 in the IT industry was completed — IBM acquired RedHat for 34 billion dollars. RedHat is one of the largest distributors of open source Linux software. Software from RedHat is actively used in server solutions, data centers and cloud technologies. Taking into account the main directions of IBM’s production activities and the active growth of the cloud technology market, buying RedHat is a very reasonable step. This merger will help to integrate IBM technical solutions and software products of the purchased company more closely.
IBM paid 63% more than the market price for Each RedHat share. An interesting fact is that IBM does not plan to change neither the structure nor the managers of the purchased company. RedHat will be a separate unit within IBM, and the CEO of the first company will be part of the senior management of the second.
