Polish science fiction writer Andrzej Sapkowski, who gave the world a series of books about the Witcher Geralt, sued the developer of the same game, and requires an amount of $ 16 million.
In the early 2000-ies the writer was visited by the representatives of the company CD Project, asking about the sale of the copyright on the game. At that time Sapkowski was skeptical about the possible success of the computer game, and sold the rights to the Witcher for a cash reward of $ 4,000. However, for the period from 2007 to 2018 were sold about 33 million copies. The author of the books repeatedly reported in conversations with the reporters about his regrets about his actions.
There is a certain clause in the Polish law whereby an author who has sold the rights of its work may claim an additional interest if the profit for the goods exceeds a certain amount. It is also noted that the agreement between Andrzej Sapkowski and the Studio CD Project meant the creation of only one game.
The creators of the series of games the Witcher strongly disagree with the statement of the applicant. According to them, the authorship rights were bought in a completely legal way. All the conditions stipulated in the agreement were fulfilled. Polish developers report that they will look for a peaceful way to solve the problem.
