GlobalFoundries was unable to master the 7-LP process technology. The company’s management decided to change the strategy for the near future and make efforts to improve existing technologies. According to sources, the management of GlobalFoundries considered it too expensive to upgrade production facilities for the successful production of new products, and therefore all attempts to master the processes 7, 5 and 3-nm will be temporarily suspended.
Production plans will be adjusted. We will remind the customers of chips from GlobalFoundries in the technology 7-nm are including AMD and IBM.
Most likely, this decision will not greatly affect the plans for the production of AMD products, as the latter focused primarily on the 7-nm process from another manufacturer – TSMC.
