Sony intends to curtail the production of its portable console PS Vita in 2019, this was reported by Vice President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Hiroyuki Oda in an interview with Famitsu, which was taken at the annual Tokyo Game Show 2018. It also became known that Sony has sent letters to the game developers for this console to stop the release of cartridges by its European and American units until the end of the 2018th fiscal year.
PS Vita console was released in 2012 to replace the console of the previous generation-PSP, which received a stunning popularity among users. Unfortunately Vita could not repeat success of the predecessor and lost the positions in the market to the main competitor – the Nintendo 3Ds console. With the release of the Switch platform, Nintendo has consolidated its success in the portable gaming devices segment.
